In recent times, there has been a greater emphasis on ecological maintainability. This necessity for an environmental balance on our planet has prompted an adjustment of the dynamics of urban transportation, and three-wheelers are no exception. According to the report, electric vehicles currently constitute just 1% of the vehicle market in India. However, 83% of this 1% comprises E-Rickshaw.

Moreover, we are all used to affordable & readily available methods of transportation like metros, buses, autos, and taxicabs. Nowadays, we are seeing an ever-increasing number of 3-wheeler automobiles on the streets. E-rickshaws hold many advantages compared with petroleum product-run vehicles, including diminished fossil fuel byproducts, lesser commotion contamination, and quicker networks.

In this blog, we’ll be comparing and analysing the two types of E-Rickshaw & 3 Wheeler Auto. These vehicles are further divided into two segments- passenger carriers and goods carriers. Passenger carrier vehicles have a capacity of 2-5 passengers and are generally used for commuting and last-mile connectivity. One could save a 15-minute-long walk for only Rs. 15 with the help of E-Rickshaws, making it a time-saving and pocket-friendly option.

TRAVEL DISTANCE

3 Wheeler Auto are mostly used for medium and long-distance commutes within a city. This is because they have higher-powered motors and bigger battery packs, allowing them to achieve higher speeds and even function all day on a single charge.

3 Wheeler Auto are generally utilized for medium and significant distance drives inside a city. This is on the grounds that they have more powerful engines and greater battery packs, permitting them to accomplish higher velocities and even capability the entire day on a solitary charge

On the other hand, E-Rickshaws are used for short-duration trips, i.e., within a locality. It is because of the smaller batteries that these vehicles cannot be operated for longer periods. Moreover, it is required to be charged frequently (drivers carry extra battery packs to increase earnings by reducing charging breaks). But they are more compact, which allows them to be more manoeuvrable in small localities and on roads.

COST AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS

3 Wheeler Auto Price (starting at Rs 1.57 Lakhs) are higher than E-Rickshaws prices (starting at Rs. 0.83 Lakhs) due to their heavier and more powerful components. Even the infrastructure costs are higher because the larger batteries require proper industrial equipment and units for charging. This availability of charging infrastructure is crucial for the widespread growth in the usage of electric autos. Both private and public entities are setting up charging stations.

These facilities are being made available in public areas like parking lots, residential complexes, etc. The vehicle operators can charge the batteries during breaks, as these facilities are easily available at several locations now. The batteries that are found in the E-Rickshaws can be charged at home with a simple high-voltage charger. However, it can be manufacturers of the vehicles sent along with the vehicle.

REGULATIONS

As per the guidelines, as the two vehicles are being utilised for business purposes, the administrators of the two vehicles require the suitable permissions and documents that the state specialists expect. 3 Wheeler autos are dependent upon similar guidelines as different vehicles, including well-being principles, discharge norms, and enrollment requirements. They should likewise meet emissions standards, which limit how much pollution they can discharge.

Meanwhile, e-rickshaws are named “non-mechanized vehicles,” and that implies that they are not subject to similar safety and emissions standards as vehicles. Even so, e-rickshaws really should be enlisted with the public authority, and they should likewise have a permit to operate.

The 3 Wheeler Autos are placed in a similar segment as the CNG-worked Autos and consequently share similar guidelines, thus having a similar speed limit that shouldn’t surpass 40 kmph. Conversely, for e-rickshaws, the limit is set at 25 km/h, as they are generally for last-mile transportation.

LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY

On the other hand, goods carriers’ three-wheelers are used for local deliveries and payload transportation. 3 wheeler auto loaders are used for bigger and heavier payloads to delivery/distribution centres, and E-rickshaws loaders are used for further localised deliveries to congested areas. These carriers are used by vegetable vendors, local grocery shops, small-business owners, hardware shops, etc.

3 Wheeler Auto are by and large used for medium and critical distance drives inside a city. This is because they have all the more remarkable motors and more prominent battery packs, allowing them to achieve higher speeds and even capacity the whole day on a single charge

In India, 3 Wheeler Autos are manufactured and distributed by Piaggio, Greaves Cotton, and Unique International. YC Electric Vehicle, Champion Poly Plast, Mini Metro, and Electric Vehicles majorly produce e-rickshaws. Mahindra Electric, Piaggio Vehicles, and Omega Seiki are well-known producers of both 3 wheeler Autos Price and E-Rickshaws. Below is the company and month-wise distribution of sales for all the companies, irrespective of the type of vehicle they manufacture.

In conclusion, both 3 wheeler Autos and E-Rickshaws are great options for transportation. E-rickshaw companies, while serving low-cost, short-distance travel/goods requirements, are also raising their standards and following regulatory requirements. We foresee the lines between 3 wheeler Autos and E-Rickshaws getting blurred going forward. But overall, these three-wheelers have revolutionised the transport market in India and have huge growth prospects.
